ABOUT US

The Pottery & Craft Shop is in the old school & schoolhouse at Cam-allt, Strathcarron.

This was originally built around 1860.

This building was then converted in 1976/7 by Barry & Anne Jones, where Barry was the full time potter and Anne ran the shop.
In 1978 Rob & Jan Teago moved from Applecross & joined forces with Barry and Anne to help build, and then run the Carron Restaurant next door. The Restaurant opened in 1979. Rob & Jan ran the restaurant for the next 14 years and built up a loyal customer base and a very good reputation for good food and a friendly atmosphere.
In 1982 Rob began learning to pot during the winter months, and when Barry & Anne retired in 1992, Rob & Jan were able to buy the business and Rob became a fulltime potter. He has developed the pottery in many ways over the years, introducing new colours, patterns and glazes including using the locally occurring marine clay from the river Carron. He now has a very healthy order book and the pots are sent all over the world.
In 1993 the Gallery was added to sell and promote local & Scottish professional artists.

THE POTTERY

The pottery is in an extension at the rear of the shop, where on most days you can see Rob either pugging clay, throwing on the wheel, decorating/glazing, packing a kiln...... or just resting between jobs

In November 2016 Rob & Jan's son, Peter, joined the pottery as Rob's apprentice, having been a chef for 30 years, he is bringing another dimension to the pottery as a hand builder, but is also learning to throw.

The pottery is hand thrown domestic stoneware and in a wide range of tableware and commissioned pieces. You can buy small items such as a butter pat or mini vase to a large lamp base or even a full dinner service.

Domestic pots are ovenproof, microwave and dishwasher safe, and are decorated with varying shades and mixtures of white, blue, green and brown.

To see examples of our pottery and a price list, please go to Pottery Gallery in the menu. If you wish to purchase any pottery please contact us to discuss your order.

Commissions are always welcome.

Parcels posted worldwide at cost.

CRAFT SHOP

The Craft Shop is located in the old school-room, plus a wee room at the side.  Here we display, not only our pottery but a very wide and comprehensive range of Scottish Crafts. The Shop specialises in top quality Scottish Crafts, of which there is an abundance.

Within the shop you can see more ceramics from around Scotland, glass, woodcraft, Scottish silver and all manner of jewellery, tweeds and knitwear. There is much more besides, from a postcard to that special present for weddings, birthdays or anniversaries.

We also have a selection of good books on wildlife, climbing and walking, with a modest section for children.

GALLERY

The Gallery is upstairs above the pottery workshop in a purposely converted room.

There is a wide choice of styles and media from both local and Scottish professional artists. These works are in watercolour, oils, pastels, felt & acrylics.  We also have three print browsers where you will find a good selection of landscape and wildlife prints, reproductions and etchings.
